The most westerly of the pre-alpine lakes Lake d’Orta is one of the most popular locations for those who love nature and Piedmont’s exceptional landscapes.

The waters of this lake, which is in the province of Novara, flow into nearby Lake Maggiore through a complex network of mountain streams.

Known in the Middle Ages as Lake San Giulio, the name Lake d’Orta began to be used only in the 17th century, thanks to the fact that the main town is Orta San Giulio.

And on these shore, between the characteristic Orta San Giulio and famous Lake Maggiore in 1879 they built an exclusive residence called Villa Crespi which today is a luxury 4-star hotel with a 2-star Michelin restaurant.

Thanks to the fact that cities like Milan and Turin are close by as is Malpensa’s international airport, Villa Crespi on Lake d’Orta is easy to reach using many modes of transport.
